The result of this failure was bloodshed, the loss of lives, and enduring trauma. When the community rose up to exercise their First Amendment right to protest, police enabled white supremacist militia members, which helped to spur rank vigilantism. “In Kenosha, we saw the police shoot a Black man in the back - in front of his children. “This complicity, along with the reason for the protests that Rittenhouse took it upon himself to confront - the police shooting of a Black man outside of a family function - highlights that the violence in Kenosha is not an anomaly, but rather endemic to a system built upon white supremacy. His acquittal comes after an ACLU investigation exposing how Kenosha law enforcement used violence against protesters and drove them toward white militia groups, in ways that escalated tensions and almost certainly led to these shootings. “Kyle Rittenhouse was a juvenile who traveled across state lines on a vigilante mission, was allowed by police to roam the streets of Kenosha with an assault rifle and ended up shooting three people and killing two. The system is broken, and it desperately needs to be fixed.”īrandon Buskey, director of the ACLU’s Criminal Law Reform Project, stated: “Rittenhouse’s trial highlights an urgent need for reform for both police and the criminal legal system. We need a system of public safety that protects the lives of the entire community. At the same time, white militia members were welcomed with open arms. They also created an environment where protesters, many of whom were people of color, were not protected and treated as the enemy. Months of research and open records requests have uncovered many incidents in which police enabled white militia members to become armed vigilantes in the street due to their failure to control the crowd. “The situation also represents an outrageous failure to protect protesters by the Kenosha Police Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office. They underscore that the police do not protect communities of color in the same way they do white people. The events in Kenosha stem from the deep roots of white supremacy in our society’s institutions. But Kyle Rittenhouse isn’t the only one responsible for the deaths that night. “Despite Kyle Rittenhouse’s conscious decision to take the lives of two people protesting the shooting of Jacob Blake by police, he was not held responsible for his actions, something that is not surprising. Shaadie Ali, interim executive director of the ACLU of Wisconsin, stated: The American Civil Liberties Union released the following statement after a jury decided that Kyle Rittenhouse was not guilty of the fatal shooting of two protestors and injuring of another in last year’s demonstrations following the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha Police Department officer last year: There seems to be an inherent conflict of interest with prosecutors who rely daily on the police to assist in prosecuting cases, and then are expected to vigorously prosecute accused officers this is not realistic.KENOSHA, Wis. Fourth, and most importantly for the future of justice and accountability, we must acknowledge the need for independent prosecutors who focus only on prosecuting cases like this. Ninety percent of the time, a jury will acquit under those circumstances. Third, Hankinson is a seasoned detective who is well experienced at testifying and had a year to prepare for trial and close every angle. Second, the failure to indict any officer for killing Breonna Taylor made the prosecution of the officer who shot into and through a wall a lot more challenging. Even today, we have no idea what is happening with the federal investigation into this matter. First, the other officers involved refused to testify on the grounds that their testimony might incriminate them. There were a number of obstacles–avoidable obstacles, but obstacles, nonetheless–to achieving a guilty verdict. We are sincerely disappointed in this outcome, but not terribly surprised. How do I nest the rows back into a column of vectors? The neurological and behavioural effects of lead are believed to be irreversible. Lead exposure also causes anaemia, hypertension, renal impairment, immunotoxicity and toxicity to the reproductive organs. In particular, lead can affect children’s brain development, resulting in reduced intelligence quotient (IQ), behavioural changes such as reduced attention span and increased antisocial behaviour, and reduced educational attainment. At lower levels of exposure that cause no obvious symptoms, lead is now known to produce a spectrum of injury across multiple body systems. Children who survive severe lead poisoning may be left with intellectual disability and behavioural disorders. At high levels of exposure lead attacks the brain and central nervous system, causing coma, convulsions and even death. Lead exposure can have serious consequences for the health of children. Children at highest risk are the very young (including the developing fetus) and the economically disadvantaged. Undernourished children are more susceptible to lead because their bodies absorb more lead if other nutrients, such as calcium or iron, are lacking. Lead stored in bone may be released into the blood during pregnancy, thus exposing the fetus. The body stores lead in the teeth and bones, where it accumulates over time. Once lead enters the body, it is distributed to organs such as the brain, kidneys, liver and bones. Exposure to lead-contaminated soil and dust resulting from battery recycling and mining has caused mass lead poisoning and multiple deaths in young children in Nigeria, Senegal and other countries. This route of exposure is magnified in children with a psychological disorder called pica (persistent and compulsive cravings to eat non-food items), who may pick away at and eat leaded paint from walls, door frames and furniture. Moreover, children’s innate curiosity and their age-appropriate hand-to-mouth behaviour result in their mouthing and swallowing lead-containing or lead-coated objects, such as contaminated soil or dust and flakes from decaying lead-containing paint. Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead poisoning because they absorb 4–5 times as much ingested lead as adults from a given source. ingestion of lead-contaminated dust, water (from leaded pipes) and food (from lead-glazed or lead-soldered containers).inhalation of lead particles generated by burning materials containing lead, for example during smelting, recycling, stripping leaded paint and using leaded aviation fuel and.People can become exposed to lead through occupational and environmental sources. Exposure of pregnant women to high levels of lead can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and low birth weight. Lead also causes long-term harm in adults, including increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney damage. Young children are particularly vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead and can suffer profound and permanent adverse health impacts, particularly on the development of the brain and nervous system. Much of the lead in global commerce is now obtained from recycling. Drinking water delivered through lead pipes or pipes joined with lead solder may contain lead. Lead is, however, also used in many other products, for example pigments, paints, solder, stained glass, lead crystal glassware, ammunition, ceramic glazes, jewellery, toys, some cosmetics such as kohl and sindoor, and traditional medicines used in countries such as India, Mexico and Viet Nam. More than three quarters of global lead consumption is for the manufacture of lead-acid batteries for motor vehicles. Important sources of environmental contamination come from mining, smelting, manufacturing and recycling activities and use in a wide range of products. Its widespread use has resulted in extensive environmental contamination, human exposure and significant public health problems in many parts of the world. Lead is a naturally occurring toxic metal found in the Earth’s crust. "And my life's no different … I've had a lot of different obstacles in my life that I've had to overcome to get to where I am today," he said. "The one thing that I know beyond the shadow of a doubt is that I have not overcome the obstacles on my own. No life is going to make it through from start to finish without being touched by pain, without being touched by trial or hardship or tragedy, obstacles. West said those experience taught him "that it doesn't matter how perfect your life might look on the outside. About five years later, he had to have vocal surgery that could have ended his singing career. An injury to his arm nearly ended his career as a musician just as he was getting started. And I think that's why I'm so excited to get on stage and sing these songs that have hopefully been an anthem for people as they've had to weather some storms in their own lives." I can't do it alone "I'm singing these songs with a whole new fire because I feel like for the first time maybe I understand what they're really about. "And I could go down the list of the songs and share with you, 'Oh, here's what inspired that song - let me tell you what that song means to me now.'"Īnother song from the album, called "What If," is "about living your life with no regrets and no 'what ifs.' And I think these last two years have taught me not to take a single day of my life for granted, and to realize that life is precious," he said. "So I think about those songs … I think about a song like 'The God Who Stays.' You know, that song meant one thing to me when I wrote the song, but now, in a season where so many of us have been separated from each other … there is one who is always with us. 1 recordings on the Christian music charts that were "all on the radio in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic," he notes. The growing unpopularity of Windows-based laptops among web-developers in the past has its roots. If you are lucky enough, you may meet a dev who uses a Windows-based laptop as a working station but it’s rather a rare exception to the rule. And at every table, along with 10 developers with serious faces, you saw at least 7 MacBooks and 3 with Ubuntu on board. An essential part of a working toolkit at such events is, obviously, a laptop (there were gurus that wrote the code even on tablets but that’s a different story). Have you finished all these setup with ease? Great job! In the second part we will discuss more about how to debug Magento 2 code effectively with Xdebug and PhpStorm. Before COVID-19 cut the possibility of public gatherings, we had plenty of offline hackathons or contribution days in the Magento community world. Now there are two ways that you can get started with debugging, first way is clicking on the green bug, then a new browser page will load up and you can start your debugging from that pointĪlternatively, you can install xdebug helper extensions for browsers, Chrome and Firefox, so that it can send debugging signal out to PhpStorm to catch it. It means your PhpStorm is ready to listen to debug signals PhpStorm debug tab Then look at the upper right corner, you will see the debug listener is now clickable. Setup Magento Application that you want to debug Save the config, then go to Run -> Debug Configuration and add a PHP Web Application debug config. Additionally, you can set up several ones if you want. Then go to Servers and set up a debug server. In PhpStorm windows, you need to go to File -> Settings -> Languages & Frameworks -> PHP and set the CLI interpreter Set correct CLI Interpreter for Php In order to use Xdebug to debug Magento 2, you have to setup it with your IDE (in our case it is PhpStorm). Now take a look again at phpinfo, if you can see this part then it is configured correctly Your Xdebug configuration Setup XDebug with PhpStorm You will need to restart apache to apply the changes: If you are running on php 7 then it would be /usr/lib/php7/20131226/xdebug.so The number might change depending on your machine. One thing worth mentioning is the zend_extension variable. Go there and paste the following code into the end of the file Go check your info.php again, look for this line where you can get the php.ini file location Find your php.ini path However we need to add some config script to setup Xdebug locally. Now to install xdebug, open terminal and type in the following command: Then go to 127.0.0.1/info.php, the following screen should display: A sample Phpinfo page Install XDebugįrom now on we assume you have your web server running Ubuntu locally on /var/there, with the content: Ready? Let’s start with the most important thing: Install XDebug. Also note that the IDE we use in this article is PhpStorm. In this article together we will try to install and config Xdebug, since it is more popular and easier to use. To debug Magento 2 code, you can use either XDebug or Zend Debug. Predictably, correctly debug your application will save you tons of time and effort. Some developers like to log things out, some like to print it right on the screen, but most prefer run-time debugging. Debugging is critical in the development process of any system. |
